This modern beautiful icon of Christ Pantocrator is hand-painted on a wood base with a silver-plated cover with incredible ornate gold and silver accents. The entire icon is overlaid with a beautifully finished highly detailed repousse (high relief) gold and silver-plated metallic cover (also known as a riza) with an attached 24-carat gold-plated halo. The riza uses a scrolled floral pattern to accent the subjects and covers the less important areas of the icon. The image of Christ Pantocrator Ruler of all depicts Him as Creator Judge and Redeemer enthroned and holding the Gospels and blessing with His right hand. These two actions represent His word as our judge and His love which sustains us. The text shown can be one of a number of passages. The image of the Pantocrator is often seen in Byzantine icons frescoes or mosaics from the cupolas of churches. The Greek word Pantocrator means Ruler of All. This icon depicts the divine majesty of the Creator under the human features of the Incarnate Son. Christ?s Gospel is opened to the twenty-fifth chapter of St. Matthew the account of the Last Judgment. Here Christ identifies himself with the poor and oppressed.
